Angie Byrne

Angie Byrne is a Program Analysist with the Volpe National Transportation Systems Center in the Safety Measurement and Analysis Division. In this role she has been primarily working on Federal Motor Carrier Association projects, including the electronic Commercial Vehicle Safety Plan (eCVSP) grant application website, the Performance and Registration Information System Management (PRISM) program, various crash data collection projects, and grant training and process review work. In coordination with another Division, Angie is leading and serving as a subject-matter-expert with various National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) projects, a joint effort between the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Governor’s Highway Safety Association. Projects include developing a performance measures tool for law enforcement grants, identifying changes in HVE participation for law enforcement, and identifying evaluation opportunities for youth-to-adult distracted driving interventions. Prior to joining Volpe, Angie was a Regional Program Manager for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Region 1 Office in Cambridge, MA for over nine years. In this role, she worked with the New England states with their programming and grant funding for traffic safety initiatives. Her areas of traffic safety included impaired driving, youth, public health/injury prevention, Safe Communities, Emergency Medical Services, motorcycles, and bicycle and pedestrian safety. During her time at NHTSA, she was able to work on a broad range of topics including tracking legislation and assisting with the implementation of several laws, supervising interns, and serving as the regional training coordinator. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and a Masters in Public Health from The Ohio State University. She holds a Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES) and Certified Public Health (CPH) designations. She lives in Somerville, MA with her husband Aaron and their two dogs Darwin and Podge.
